October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Epic Specialty Staffing is excited to share the most recent and cutting-edge breast cancer research, testing and treatment options. The future success of breast cancer detection and cure is on the rise due to new and advanced imaging systems for early diagnosis as well as innovative treatment options. 

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer in women besides skin cancer. Although breast cancer can be a life-threatening illness, the mortality rate of breast cancer has dropped significantly in recent years due to earlier detection and ground-breaking advances in cancer research. 

Thankfully, 62.5% of breast cancer cases are caught before the cancer spreads to other areas of the body. Women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer that has not metastasized to other organs, have a 5-year survival rate of 98.9%! 

Early detection is key for breast cancer survival and treatment. The American Cancer Society recommends scheduling regular mammograms. These types of screening tests, including the newest industry standard 3D mammogram, can detect breast cancer before physical lumps would be noticeable through a self-exam.
